EMMANUEL ENGELI

Emmanuel qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Bern, Switzerland in 1998 and went on to specialise in equine lameness diagnostics and surgery in the USA over a 5-year period. He is a European, American and RCVS Specialist in Equine Surgery. Emmanuel worked in New York and Switzerland from 2003 - 2005, before accepting the position of Head of the Orthopaedic Department at the Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic, Mereworth. At Bell, Emmanuel mainly focused on lameness examinations (including ultrasonography, x-rays and the use of nuclear scintigraphic bone scanning) and performed orthopaedic surgical procedures. In 2009 he was appointed Head of the Equine Hospital and University Equine Surgeon at the Veterinary School in Cambridge.

In 2011 Emmanuel was persuaded to return to private practice in the South of England and is now working as a consultant lameness / poor performance specialist and orthopaedic surgeon at a few select equine veterinary centres. Emmanuel has a sympathetic, systematic and meticulous approach to lameness and poor performance problems in horses. He has furthermore extensively researched the sacroiliac and elbow regions of the horse and has a keen interest in innovative lameness treatments such as autologous conditioned serum (IRAP), platelet-rich plasma and shock wave therapy.

Emmanuel is married to Elizabeth and they have a lovely 2 year-old girl and a baby boy. Outside of work Emmanuel enjoys snowboarding, surfing, photography and spending time with his family.
